TO THE BEACH, TO THE BEACH, TO THE BEACH...We are at Smathers Beach. Smathers Beach is the largest public beach in Key West, Florida, United States. It is approximately a half mile long. The beach is located on the south side of the island, along the Atlantic Ocean and State Road A1A, and begins at mile marker zero, the beginning of A1A. The beach is lined with coconut trees and is often crowded with tourists and locals alike.

KEY WEST AQUARIUM. Opening for business during the Great Depression in 1934, the Aquarium was Key West's first tourist attraction. The Aquarium was built between 1932 and 1934, and was a major part of Key West's attempt to stage an economic recovery by advertising their city as "America's Caribbean Island." Many of the following photos are from the Atlantic Shores Exhibit and the Touch Tank.
